Fishing on Bayou Barbary and the Amite River

April 22, 2011 by Austin Dixon

I got to go fishing with Corey down Bayou Barbary and the Amite River. It’s the first time I had been fishing in probably close to ten years. I pulled in five sac-a-lait and four bass. On the way back to the landing, the lower unit on Corey’s boat went out, so we trolled over a mile down Bayou Barbary in the dark. It was an interesting experience. I’m ready to go again. I think I could go fishing every weekend for the rest of my life.

This is the baseball display I set up in the library for spring. Thanks to Coach Jamie Gautreau of French Settlement High School, Coach Evan Balfantz of Maurepas High School, and Mrs. Virginia Robertson for letting me borrow your jerseys!

Yes, That Is a Deer Stand Behind Our Library

There’s at least one deer stand visible in the woods behind our library. I think we’re the only library in the country that has a deer stand in its backyard.

I decided to try my hand at pumpkin carving for Halloween 2010. I chose to do a couple of football-themed pumpkins. First, I did a SLU pumpkin with the Lions’ Simmie Yarborough. Then I tackled an LSU-themed Patrick Peterson pumpkin. The skin on the SLU pumpkin was a little thicker, so the image didn’t show up as well as the one on the LSU pumpkin, but I like how they turned out.

Mrs. Lois’ Typewriter

Mrs. Lois brought her old typewriter to the library to use as a prop for Mrs. Louise’s book club meeting. It’s pretty cool. I think it would still work, too.
