We have all kinds of stuff going on at the library right now. For starters, animals in hot air balloons are taking over the children’s wing. We had a rock ‘n’ roll program which seems to be the most popular thing at our library since Harvey Rabbit, who’ll stopping by next week, coincidentally. It had to be one of the first programs at our library that had patrons from out-of-state–my cousins that were staying with us at the time. Not to mention there’s a cruise ship docked in our sitting area, and I somehow have an excuse to wear blue jeans at work four days each week. We have a Nook now, too, for what it’s worth. At least I’m not running around wearing a wrestling belt, oversized sunglasses, and a bleach blonde goatee anymore.

National Library Week 2011 and Dummymania
This spring, the library entered a national contest with over 1,600 “For Dummies” books as the grand prize. At the time, I was still trying to figure out what ridiculously obvious book character to dress up as for National Library Week. After talking with Mrs. Louise one day, I realized I could dress up as the Dummy Guy from the “For Dummies” books and maybe kill two birds with one stone. Not only did I dress up as the Dummy Guy, I made a short video to try to help the library in the contest.
In the end, it was too little, too late, but I did get some experience in video editing and refreshed my flash animation abilities, both of which can likely help me in the future. Thanks to everyone who took the time to watch the video and “Like” the library’s contest page!

Book Hooks: The Juvie Three
The boys’ Book Hooks program turned out really well. Seven guys attended, which is the most teenage guys we’ve ever had at a program. We discussed The Juvie Three by Gordon Korman. The discussion was really good, and you could tell everyone read the book because they were interested, rather than because they had to read it for school.
I set up a slide show for the discussion, and Mrs. Louise did a bunch of her awesome wall art. Everyone enjoyed it so much that we’ll probably continue to do it once every semester.
Fishing on Bayou Barbary and the Amite River
I got to go fishing with Corey down Bayou Barbary and the Amite River. It’s the first time I had been fishing in probably close to ten years. I pulled in five sac-a-lait and four bass. On the way back to the landing, the lower unit on Corey’s boat went out, so we trolled over a mile down Bayou Barbary in the dark. It was an interesting experience. I’m ready to go again. I think I could go fishing every weekend for the rest of my life.
